On the 21stof October 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in Goshen building room 314, the International Student Service Center held a class meeting for the Polish and Thai students which were hosted by the Ministry of Sports and Culture and the Ministry of Life. Participants included volunteers from the Ministry of culture, sports and life, and students from Thailand and the senior classes.
Topic: Mutual understanding and joint improvement.
At the beginning of the meeting, the volunteers introduced the topics of the class meeting which were: hoping to promote students’ mutual understanding; common improvement and mutual familiarity through self-introductions. First of all, seven volunteers introduced themselves. Most of them were new volunteers. During their self-introductions, they welcomed the foreign students in fluent English and talked about their expectations which were to learn and help each other in life thereby making progress together. Someone introduced their hobbies, talents and skills hoping to be able to find students who have the same interests.
Mutual Learning And Improvement.
Afterwards, foreign students gave their self introductions. Representatives of the Polish, Thai and advanced classes introduced themselves on the stage. The activity was humorous and cheerful. During the self introductions we felt the enthusiasm of volunteers as well as the openness, generosity, harmony and friendliness of the overseas students.
Afterwards, a couple of international students took part in an interesting game. Phoebe from Cameroon and Etienne from Poland exhibited how to play one game. One player had to figure out the item on a picture that a third player had hidden from them through body language, funny movements and funny expressions, which lead to continuous laughter among the students present. This competition showed that the abilities to express themselves and to cooperate with others are essential for success.
Finally, the host summed up the event and hoped that everyone could learn more and work together better.
On The 21st of October at 3:00pm we held a class meeting in Goshen Building room 313.This class meeting was meant for cultural exchanges of different countries and the students from different countries used power point presentations to help them to share information about their culture. The class meeting was hosted by the student representative Hao Shuai and Sun Shixuan.
Zhang Boxuan, an introducer of Chinese culture, introduced Chinese traditional costumes, Chinese opera and facial makeup to foreign students and received a warm response from students. Then the Indonesian representatives Li Xuan and Ye Hao shared videos about Indonesia to their classmates. After watching the videos we learned about the local conditions and customs of Indonesia.
Sajad and Gram, representatives of Bangladesh introduced their country showing various aspects including geographical location, population, language, food, clothing, animals and attractions. Hao Shuai, a representative of the overseas students from Congo introduced the local traditional cuisine which varied in the types of dishes and cooking methods. In addition, representatives from other countries such as the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, Zimbabwe and Burundi also took turns to showcase their national cultures.
During the activity, the students paid attention. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. This activity has deepened the students’ understanding of the different cultures of the different countries. It also promoted good relationships between students from different countries, enhanced cultural self-confidence and respect of each other.
